The Best Zoo in The Nation

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is celebrating being the best zoo in the nation voted on by visitors. The Newport Aquarium was also named one of the top aquariums in the country. The Cincinnati Zoo was one of twenty zoos across the country to be nominated for this top title. The Cincinnati community loves their Zoo! In 2018, the PNC Festival of Lights hosted at the Cincinnati Zoo won USA Today’s Top Ten Best poll for Best Zoo Lights. A lot of visitors have been most attracted to the one of the newest members of the Cincinnati Zoo, Fiona the hippo. This zoo is one of the oldest in the nation and still attracts the most visitors each year that bring each visitor nose-to-nose with the animals. “Guests can view hippos underwater, pop up in a bubble amid meerkats or watch cheetahs racing at top speeds,” a zookeeper from the Cincinnati Zoo said. The Columbus, Ohio Zoo and Aquarium were ranked number five nationally.

Alongside celebrating being number one in the nation, they also use the month of May to celebrate the animals at the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. There is an event called ‘Zoo Babies’ that will run all the way through May 31st. This event is free with a regular zoo admission. The animals that will be in this event include little blue penguins, colobus monkeys, a tamandua, rare birds, reptiles and insects. The full list of animals is on the zoo’s website. This event is the result of careful matchmaking by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan. The babies may be adorable, but are also great ambassadors for their species. They inspire visitors to care about their wild counterparts and take action to protect them. There will be signs located around the park letting visitors know where the babies can be found. Two year old Fiona will also make an appearance for visitors to check out during the Zoo Baby appreciation month.
