This week, I’m introducing a new article series: Wack News. In Wack News, I’ll go over recent news that’s odd or different from your average news. While the news may be overall irrelevant, it sure is entertaining. Let’s jump into it.

Coronavirus Update
The coronavirus, or COVID-19 has continued to rapidly spread throughout the world, infecting around 80,000 people and killing around 2,700 – a mortality rate of about 3.4%. All the countries that are infected with the virus as of this article are China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Afghanistan, Australia, Bahrian, Belgium, Cambodia, Canada, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Nepal, the Phillipines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, The Republic of Korea, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, and, finally, Vietnam. Symptoms of the virus early on are similar to that of a cold, and develop into flu symptoms, like a high fever, cold chills, and nausea. Finally, the virus develops into a deadly viral type of pneumonia. The virus is said to only be fatal to those who are already unhealthy, but is 20 times deadlier than the flu, according to health officials.

What is the Zika Virus?
The Zika virus is an arthropod-borne virus that is spread through a bite of an infected mosquito. This virus comes mostly from yellow fever mosquitoes that are found in tropical climates, including southern United States. The Zika virus is more of a danger to pregnant women because if you get the Zika virus while you are pregnant then it can cause birth defects. One major birth defect is very small heads.
Netflix Drama Movies Review
Sometimes, it’s hard to find interesting movies to watch on Netflix. That’s why I decided to binge-watch a few movies from the drama genre section, rate them, and give my overall opinion on each. I sorted the movies from best to least that way you can decide whether or not these films are worth watching.

We all love hearing about Conspiracies. Especially the ones that are crazy and some people couldn’t believe. If you do not know what Conspiracy Theories are then I will tell you. Conspiracy Theories are beliefs that people say are influenced by an organization for a circumstance or an event. Here are some of the most popular conspiracies:
Who is Quaden Bayles?
Quaden Bayles is a nine-year-old boy from the city of Queensland in Australia. He suffers from the genetic disorder, achondroplasia, which causes dwarfism. Bayles has recently gone viral over a video recorded by his mother of him breaking down into tears because of his constant encounters with bullying at school. In the video, Quaden states several times, “I want to kill myself”. Even the voice of his mother breaks as she records and shows the effect bullying has on her child. His mother, Yarraka Bayles, warns parents that bullying prevention doesn’t do enough for the kids and that’s the reason suicides are not decreasing.

Times are always changing today, between the fashion, memes, hair and makeup, and of course the challenges. Challenges can make people do some pretty crazy things just to get those 5 minutes of fame. In 2014 the ALS Ice bucket challenge was everywhere on the internet. From youtube to snapchat. Over the years different apps, and influencers have made new challenges. Here are some of the most trending kinds.
Current Hair and Makeup Trends

Makeup trends are some of the most followed trends. They’re easily seen, with the large amount of creators having social media dedicated to makeup looks. Many are for very extreme looks and others are more toned down. Hair trends haven’t followed, however they’re still big. Different haircuts become more popular than others every now and then. Length, texture, and color are some of the more extreme trends. Actual hair styles trends are more of ideas with several different types. Currently there are a lot of interesting makeup and hair trends that are going around and getting very big.
Makeup:
Color!
Colorful, bright, and neon makeup looks have been really big. Colored eye shadows that brightly emphasize your eyes have been seen on many beauty gurus. It draws attention and looks really interesting. However, colored eye shadow isn’t it. Colorful mascara and eyeliner to match the eye shadow has been going around in the beauty community. It originally was only used for special effects looks, but now they are used everyday by some artists.
A Little Sparkle
For some people, highlighter isn’t enough. They need more sparkle. This may not be an everyday look, but creative makeup looks have been created with sparkly studs. They place the studs in different patterns on the face and following their facial features. It gives a magical look. They’ve been put on the eyelids, cheekbones, brow bone, and along the hairline. It looks elegant in some ways. However, it might not be the most comfortable.
Watercolor
A lot of color has been popular, however some prefer the more subtle approach to it. Pastel colored eye looks that lighting fade out has been blowing up. It’s cooled water color eye shadow. It is usually paired with a large amount of blush. It gives a subtle and cute look. It can even be made with two colors, one in the corner and one for an outside. It makes a pretty ombre look and definitely draws attention .
Glass Skin
Who said your cheekbones and nose are the only things you put highlighter on? It’s been a trend to put it everywhere. It makes you look really shiny and glowing. Highlighter is mixed with moisturizer or something else that is already put all over the face. It has been a trend for much longer than many of the others, but it’s still blowing up. It is probably here to stay.
Fluffy Brows
Brows have gone through a lot of changes. Many different shapes, and sizes have been popular. Currently big and thick brows are a growing trend. However, instead of drawing on these brows and making them solid, it’s now more popular to make your eyebrows look natural. People are no longer drawing blocks with their eyebrow pencil, but using them to mimic hairs. It gives a similar look as microblading, it just washed off.
Pre-Season Baseball Interview

The West Clermont baseball season is right around the corner. I decided to interview some players that have played in the past to get their intake on how the 2020 season will go. Logan Schmidt, a senior at West Clermont has played baseball for 13 years and plans on attending the University of Cincinnati where he will be majoring in pre-physical therapy and minoring in statistical analytics. Braden Meadows, another senior at West Clermont has played baseball for 14 years and plans on attending either Mount Saint Joseph University or Bluffton University where he will continue to play baseball and major in crimal justice.
The 90’s Are Back

Throughout the years a lot of trends come a go. However, some have the ability to come back later on in the years. Currently the 90’s era is coming back strong. Aspects like fashion, television shows, and music, from the past have been getting a lot of attention. Many of the songs from the 90’s are coming back due to the app TikTok. Many older songs have been trending to be used in creators’ videos. Netflix holds a lot of discontinued shows from the 90’s. Friends being the most popular of them. Netflix and other apps like it are allowing younger people easier access to watching these shows. “Thrifting” has also been a very popular and growing activity. People have been going to thrift stores like “Goodwill” and trying to make them better, or even keep them for their natural beauty. Thrift stores have a lot of older clothes, so the growth in thrifting means a growth in a liking to the older style. Stores have noticed that this is growing in popularity. They are creating 90’s inspired clothes for people to buy without thrifting. A couple of these trends are more popular than other though
Mom Jeans/ High-Waisted Jeans

Mom jeans and high-waisted jeans are very similar, mom jeans are just a lot more loose fitting.People have fallen in love with the way these jeans fit their bodies and how comfortable they are. These jeans emphasize the hips and are easier to keep up for petite people. Mom jeans allow a breathable comfortable look, while regular high waisted jeans have a more slim fit work.
“Friends“

The show “Friends” follows a group of 6 friends, Rachel, Ross, Chandler, Monica, Phoebe, and Joey. It’s a very comedic show, including cheesy, inappropriate, and clever jokes. Crazy things happen every day in the show. They go through hardships, relationships, jobs, and more that come with life. It started in 1994 and ended in 2004. It was on Netflix for a while, making it easy to watch. Unfortunately , it was taken off not too long ago.
Matching sets

Matching sets were a big trend in the 90’s. It was supported by Regina George in the movie, “Mean Girls”. With her plaid yellow skirt and jacket she kicked the trend off. Matching sets can include denim on denim, the same color top and bottom, or a funky pattern. Some are almost just a jump suit cut in half. Track suits also fall into this matching set category. Now, it’s not like everyone in your school is itching to wear a stylish tracksuit, but it’s been a growing trend between celebrities. Hit “2” to read more.
