Stupid Laws in Ohio

The United States has very many strange laws on it’s own. However, it’s when we dive into individual state’s laws that it gets even weirder. Ohio is Wolves Weekly’s home state, so why not show some of Ohio’s strangest and most useless laws. Many of these seem completely mind boggling, while others are just pointless. 

The Whale Law:

In Ohio there is a law against fishing for whales. However, it is only not allowed on Sunday. I’ll let you take a minute to let that sink in. Yes, there is a law against fishing for whales in Ohio! A couple questions arise with this law: What whales even live in Ohio? Who “fishes” for whales? And why is it only on Sundays? I supposed they may have put this law in place to prepare for when whales do come to Ohio, just to bunker down on all the whale haters in advance. Sunday must just be a popular day for whale fishing. It may also be to prevent people from using a fishing rod to catch whales, because that would end up bad.

In it To Win it:

It is illegal to both install and use a slot machine in an outhouse. You are prohibited to use the bathroom and win some cash at the same time. Lawmakers must not be a fan of killing two birds with one stone. Double up on the big berthas! I can not even begin to imagine what incident happened to make this a law. Does using the bathroom affect your spin’s chances? I’m willing to bet a lot of people were very disappointed when this law was put into place, so much for that pooping casino.

In honor of it being Halloween, everyone has been getting in the spooky mood lately. This may be the best Halloween we’ve had in a while, if Covid stays out of it. Halloween 2020 will be on a Saturday night and it will be a full moon. Many Halloweens events have been cancelled already. In hopes that our great Halloween will happen, here is a list of some of the scariest and most haunted places in the United States. 

5. Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel was the biggest inspiration for the very popular horror movie, “The Shining”. The inspiration for the movie came to Stephen King after staying in the most haunted room of the hotel, room 217. The hotel is in the middle of the Rocky Mountains and is said to be the most haunted hotel in the United states. It is said that the hotel is haunted by a very large amount of ghosts, ranging from celebrities, children, pets, and even the original owner of the hotel, Freelan Stanley. Staff of the hotel claim they have visibly seen Stanley and his wife enjoying their afterlife in the hotel.

Many of the ghosts in the hotel are well known due to their late celebrity status, however one of the most known ghosts is named Jack. He haunts the concert hall of the hotel and thinks he runs the place. It is 11:00 P.M. curfew at the hotel. Guests have reported hearing Jack yell, “Get out!” when the clock strikes 11:00. Many other ghosts live in the hotel. Guests have reported being nudged, hearing voices, feeling watched, and seeing a person one second, then them disappearing the next. Many rooms in the hotel have been said to be the best for paranormal activity. Guests try their best to get these rooms, however they are normally booked and several visitors have even been put on a waiting list for these rooms. 

4. AZ Field of Screams

The AZ Field of Scream is the scariest cornfield haunted attraction in the U.S. It holds a large variety of characters played by very experienced actors. The actors do have the opportunity to touch you and if they feel that it is needed to scare you, they may pull your hair, arm, or clothing. People who haven’t claimed it were the scariest attraction that they’ve ever been to. Many said they left with tears from being so terrified.

The corn maze was planted over an old, rundown and forgotten cemetery. The dead from the cemetery may still be lurking in the tall field of corn. The attraction’s description says, “You’re walking through a quiet dark cornfield, anticipating every second danger is lurking around the next corner… you walk quietly and suddenly wonder if you are the only ones out there, where AM I? SHUUUUSHHH … then a blood curdling scream in the distance reminding you … they are out there … waiting… for YOU … it’s not IF they will get you … it’s WHEN will they get you … and your brain is screaming RUN! … But where do you run? ….. R.B.G.’s Final Wish

On September 18th Supreme Court Justice, Ruth Bauer Ginsburg passed away from metastatic pancreas cancer. She died at the age of 97. She was seen as a projector of women and minorities. She was a very small woman, but was incredibly tough. She has helped in giving and protecting many rights of women and creating equality between all people:

• The rights to sign a mortgage without a man

• The right to have a bank account without a male co-sign

• The right to have a job without being discriminated based on gender

• The right for women to be pregnant/have kids and work

• The right to pension equal to male counterparts

• The right for men to receive widowers Social Security benefits

She was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993. She served for years as the most senior member of the Supreme Court, and was only the second woman to serve on the Supreme Court. She was also the only Jewish woman to serve on the court. As her final wish, she told her granddaughter she wanted her replacement to be decided by the winner of the 2020 election. As we’re sure you all know 2020 has been a very eventful year. There has definitely been more downs than ups as we’ve been going. The world has gone through a lot this year. All we are hearing on the news is negativity. We are only seeing the terrible things currently happening. It’s beginning to get overwhelming. However, there is always a silver lining and a light at the end of the tunnel. There are a lot of great and happy things going on right now that we just aren’t hearing about. For some much needed positivity, here is some good news that we feel everyone needs to hear.

McDonald’s Testing New Reusable Cup System

McDonald’s Breaks New Ground With Returnable, Reusable Coffee Cups

McDonald’s in the United Kingdom has begun testing new reusable returnable cups to cut back on the 600 billion paper coffee cups that are used up every year. McDonald’s Vice President of Sustainability, Jenny McColloch opted to use this system of reusable drinking cups, which are manufactured by a company called Loop.

To keep up with health standards regarding Covid-19, after returning the cups, McDonald’s sends the cups to a facility to have the cups sterilized so they can be used again the next day. McDonald’s in the UK is taking tips from McDonald’s in Germany, as they offer a discount if you bring your own cup. If you use the new reusable cup in McDonald’s UK, they offer a small discount to your purchase.

Although McDonald’s has been using biodegradable cups to help recycle and keep from wasting the paper, these recyclable materials still have a life cycle before the cups’ molecular structure begins breaking down. Loop and McDonald’s are hoping that implementing this new cup will inspire other companies to do the same and reduce waste and pollution.

Oldest WWII Veteran Turns 111 Years Old

Lawrence Brooks is the oldest known U.S.World War Two veteran. He was born on September 12th 1909, This would make him 111 years old. He ended up being drafted into the Second World War when he was 31 years old. He would eventually become a 1st Class Private. He was one of only 1.2 million African Americans that served in the war, compared to 16 million soldiers.

On his birthday last Saturday he was at his home with the Victory Belles singing and dancing for him. People socially distanced on the sidewalk in front of his house, people brought gifts, cards, and many brought signs. He was so happy. He smiled, danced around, and clapped to the singing. There was a military fly over that went directly over his house. It was just for him. He had nearly 10,000 cards sent to his doorstep and birthday wishes from across the planet.

Chinese Fishing Fleet Endangering Galápagos Islands

The Galápagos Islands are home to so many unique species of animals. Some animals can only be found on those islands and nowhere else in the entire world. They are incredibly beautiful and are flourishing with life. Many ecologists from around the world flock to the island to view and study the amazing creatures. The islands are home to both unique land and sea creatures. On-land iguanas, blue-footed boobies, giant turtles, and much more thrive and live in peace away from the world. In the water lives sea turtles, whale sharks, and a never ending list of marine life. This is where Charles Darwin did his research on finches and adaption. The world has fallen in such love with these islands that there is a protection zone around them. Only science and education is allowed…no tourism, fishing, or hunting.

Unfortunately, some do not respect the islands as much as others do. Currently, there is an insanely large fleet of Chinese fishing boats that are pushing the border of the protection zone. The fleet was found by the Ecuadorian navy. They have been there for close to two months, and no one has been talking about it. Seven hundred fishing vessels have been crowded at the south side of the protection zone. They have been mass fishing and threatened to go farther into the zone. They originally were mass fishing and catching squid, but recently they have claimed that they have decided to only catch squid from now on. China has put a temporary ban on fishing near the islands in an attempt to stop the fleet. It failed to work. As fishing season winds down, here is a hope that they will leave soon.

Change The World

We the human race, are basically controlling the whole world. We make changes to it everyday, and the fate of it is in our hands. If anything goes wrong, we are the ones to blame. A large issue that has been greatly debated is climate change. People are dumping carbon monoxide into the air and trash into the ecosystems. It is heating the atmosphere, oceans, and Antarctic ice. Watching videos of this ice melting sends a chill down my spine. Animals and our beloved Earth are in peril. The oceans are filling with trash, more and more added each day. The Pacific Garbage Patch is a perfect example. Sea creatures are dying because they are eating the trash or becoming trapped inside of it . It really isn’t that hard to clean up after yourself.

However, trash and pollution isn’t the only issue. We are losing trees, and we’re losing them fast. Each year, every U.S. city is losing 36 million trees. Trees are what give us our air. They can protect our farm land and provide homes for animals, keeping them out of danger. According to CNN, trees can reduce temperatures by 10 degrees. They provide us with a fighting chance against global warming. Large parking lots and buildings are taking away these trees. Trees allow better water quality, flood reduction, and an overall beautiful scenery. There are groups of people that plant trees and take care of them. They prune the trees to protect them, and they make sure the trees stay healthy. Money has been raised through social media to grow a whole forest. If more and more people help, the world can become cleaner.

Makeup trends are some of the most followed trends. They’re easily seen, with the large amount of creators having social media dedicated to makeup looks. Many are for very extreme looks and others are more toned down. Hair trends haven’t followed, however they’re still big. Different haircuts become more popular than others every now and then. Length, texture, and color are some of the more extreme trends. Actual hair styles trends are more of ideas with several different types. Currently there are a lot of interesting makeup and hair trends that are going around and getting very big.

A colorful eye look

Colorful, bright, and neon makeup looks have been really big. Colored eye shadows that brightly emphasize your eyes have been seen on many beauty gurus. It draws attention and looks really interesting. However, colored eye shadow isn’t it. Colorful mascara and eyeliner to match the eye shadow has been going around in the beauty community. It originally was only used for special effects looks, but now they are used everyday by some artists.

A Little Sparkle

For some people, highlighter isn’t enough. They need more sparkle. This may not be an everyday look, but creative makeup looks have been created with sparkly studs. They place the studs in different patterns on the face and following their facial features. It gives a magical look. They’ve been put on the eyelids, cheekbones, brow bone, and along the hairline. It looks elegant in some ways. However, it might not be the most comfortable.

A lot of color has been popular, however some prefer the more subtle approach to it. Pastel colored eye looks that lighting fade out has been blowing up. It’s cooled water color eye shadow. It is usually paired with a large amount of blush. It gives a subtle and cute look. It can even be made with two colors, one in the corner and one for an outside. It makes a pretty ombre look and definitely draws attention .

Who said your cheekbones and nose are the only things you put highlighter on? It’s been a trend to put it everywhere. It makes you look really shiny and glowing. Highlighter is mixed with moisturizer or something else that is already put all over the face. It has been a trend for much longer than many of the others, but it’s still blowing up. It is probably here to stay. 

Fluffy Brows

What fluffy brows are meant to look like

Brows have gone through a lot of changes. Many different shapes, and sizes have been popular. Currently big and thick brows are a growing trend. However, instead of drawing on these brows and making them solid, it’s now more popular to make your eyebrows look natural. People are no longer drawing blocks with their eyebrow pencil, but using them to mimic hairs. It gives a similar look as microblading, it just washed off.
