Scootermania Ending with a Crash

While growing up did you ever resort to a scooter for fun? Ever since the brands razor , Fuzion , and Envy came out, they have been a big hit! Today, the scooter industry has stepped up their game. By producing the electrical scooter , many kids immediately fell head over heels. A quick trip down the street and back gave kids the opportunity to have some fun!

However ; that fun might have to come to an end. “There are now dozens of scooter-sharing companies, and the two biggest, Bird and Lime, are the fastest startups to reach a valuation of $1 billion in U.S. history.” ( It’s great that these scooter companies are making good money so that they can produce more. But, with a demand for the scooters and the mass production of them , some say that it may make way into our daily transportation.

Scooter company big scooter is now coming out with a way where anyone who wants to rent a scooter can with just a click of a button. “You can locate and pay for them using your smartphone, and they typically cost $1 plus 15 cents per minute. Then leave them wherever you want.” ( By having these scooters available downtown for any passerby that sees an interest in it is a great idea. The business industry would make tons of money because anyone who passes by a scooter who doesn’t want to walk for hours will defiantly invest in one of them so that they could get to where they need to be. It’s also great that whenever individuals are through with them , they can just leave them wherever they want.

But , by leaving them wherever they want , it puts the scooters at risk of being abused. “They’re typically dead in less than a month or two. They get abused by riders who have no incentive to maintain them — and they literally get left out in the rain and cold.” ( That can be very bad for the scooter industry because if people are just leaving them out whenever and wherever , anyone can get ahold of them and do what they want. They could vandalize , and destroy them.

Scooter companies have also been having complaints about the safety of these scooters. “The city of Austin and the CDC recently released a study that found there were about 20 injuries per 100,000 scooter rides, and that half of these were head injuries that could have been avoided if riders were wearing helmets.” ( With having safety risks involved it could really hurt the buisness. Having head injuries for people who didn’t wear helmets when they were riding , it could cause more of a demand for the helmets than the actual scooter. That would totally plummet the whole idea of the rent and go idea. The scooter companies want people to be safe when riding them but also to use them properly so that they can do the things they need to do and not have to worry about whether or not they are going to get hurt.

5 Cool Things That Could Make the World a Better Place

Everyone wants to make the world a better place. With new technology advancing every year, and electric cars being introduced, entrepreneurs are predicting big things for the year of 2030. Bullying, sexual abuse, public education, and many more are some examples of things that need to be changed as we grow up.

Some social entrepreneurs are ” tackling a range of daunting issues: child sexual abuse on the internet, youth unemployment, mental health crises, counterfeit drugs, and lack of access to medicine. (” Many people are trying to fund groups that can make a profit to stop these things that are happening in our world today. It would be a big step if social entrepreneurs could help decrease those problems we are having. Although, they are going to try to take it one step at a time.

The first step is to make young unemployment come way down. Many kids across the world that are high school students or graduates are working so that they can have the money they need. However, ” in South Africa, every year 1.1 million young people graduate from high school or college — or else they drop out. (” Some of the kids that are still in high school or graduates that are trying to go to college , find a job but over in South Africa, it is a very low number. It is very hard to find a job over there because some of the places that hire are looking at specific things like their work ethic, how well they can speak English and how well they can work with people at public venues.

A nonprofit group called Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator is in effect so that kids that can’t land a job, are able to have one. It is basically training and assessments for kids so that they can be able to perfect their language portion of the job; as well as a stronger work ethic and people skills. If all goes well their prediction is that by 2030 kids who are unemployed and who want to work will get a job when they graduate high school.

The second step is for kids who are feeling depressed. A helpline will be created so that their can be people for kids to talk to when they are feeling helpless, lost, or very emotional. It’s a great way for teens because of how much they are on their phones. A simple text to the Crisis Text Line can really make a huge difference if their are kids out there who are struggling and don’t have anyone to talk to about how they are feeling.

The third step is making sure African pharmacies don’t run out of medicine. To ensure that, ” Rockson came up with a company called MPharma so that there can be negotiation for lower prices because of people buying large quantities of medication. (” With that, Africans will be able to get what they need at a reasonable price.

The Fourth step is to have no worries about buying fake drugs. In Africa, buying fake drugs or medicine is a big problem. Bright Simons had made a company called mPedigree to ” give consumers confidence that medicines and seeds they buy are the genuine article and not poor quality knockoffs. (” He is hoping that by 2030, people will be able to trust the system so that they can get what they need and not have to worry about it being a knockoff.

The fifth and final step is no more child sexual violence in online images. Social media has taken over teens way of life. Sexual abuse has occurred over the internet and in the U.S it is illegal. However; there are still reports out there. “Cordua the CEO of Thorn, has developed software to help social media companies find the user generated  images and take them down and has created software to assist law enforcement agencies as they try to find the children in abuse materials. (” She hopes that by creating this, it will completely diminish child sexual abuse everywhere.

U.K Regulators Propose Social Media Regulations

Since the creation of Facebook, Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram and other social media apps, there has been an increase of cyber-bullying taking place all over the world. It is effecting teens tremendously because they are growing up with low self-esteem and more anxiety. It’s happening more and more because when teens feel bored they get on social media and stay on there for hours at a time. All over the world, there has been issues of online harm that has been occurring.

In the U.K, “terrorist groups using the Internet to spread propaganda, criminal gangs inciting violence over social media, and sexual predators going online to groom children for exploitation. (” The U.K is working on trying to reach out to the social media groups so that they can work on being more alert when it comes to violence online. Communication online can get very vigorous as well. Many teens hear bad language and then apply it online. Continue reading U.K Regulators Propose Social Media Regulations

More Migrant Families Arrive at Border

Over the years, the U.S has had problems with illegal immigrants entering the country. Since Trump was elected as President of the United States in 2016, he had this plan of building a wall to keep all illegal immigrants out. The wall is a total of 1,954 miles between the United States and Mexico borders.

Since the beginning of the construction, it has made it a lot harder for immigrants to reach their destination. They have tried going in pairs, singles, and even in families. None of those have worked recently. “The U.S Border Patrol apprehended more than 66,000 migrants at the southern border in February” ( It was the highest in almost a decade. Many people’s reasons for leaving their home country is simply so they can feel more safe and encounter more freedom in the U.S.

Over in Central America, there is more crime, poverty and gangs than what we see here in the U.S. People that don’t want any part of that try to flee so that they can be in better living conditions. Many families don’t want their younger children to grow up in that environment so they send their children off first and then later on hopefully join them.

The Border Patrol officials say they haven’t seen anything like this in many years. Usually it is single men that are trying to get across the border not loads of families arriving in busloads. They worry that the design of the wall will not keep all these families from arriving. They are already reaching the maximum capacity of immigrants in custody and it is so far causing a lot of problems.

The biggest problem is trying to provide medical attention and food to those families that are in custody, waiting to be released. “Many humanitarian groups near the border say the surge of migrant families is straining their resources, too” ( The people that are in charge of these groups that help the families and children in custody say that it takes a lot of effort to provide all the materials these immigrants need.

Trump says that the wall borders need to extend further, but many people have argued that it’s not the wall, it’s the people that are trying to get in. They say that the wall does no good, yes it keeps people out but there are still parts to where people have gotten in when there is still fencing of old ways to keep them out. “Migrant advocates counter that the Trump administration has made the problem at the southern border worse by allowing just a few migrant families a day to cross at legal ports of entry” ( By them doing that, it can really cause a problem and overflow to the population over time.

Worlds Biggest Bee Spotted

The bee has been known for producing the honey that you may eat with biscuits, and beeswax that can be incorporated into many essentials that we use in our everyday lives. At one point they have been in the running for becoming extinct and many people had to be careful when seeing one to make sure they did not harm it. Luckily, that is no longer a concern. They are out of the danger zone and back to where they need to be. But, have you ever wondered, do bees come in different shapes and sizes? The answer is yes. There are about 16,000 species of bees that are known.

With having a variety of different bee species, have you ever thought to yourself, is there a kind of bee that is the biggest? Well let me tell you this, there is! Over in Indonesia, the Megochile Pluto was spotted for the first time since 1981. It almost quadruples the size of the average honey bee. Now that’s a big bee! The Megochile Pluto measured at least an inch and a half long with a tongue of close to an inch.

These winged creatures were first discovered by Alfred Russel Wallace, a British naturalist and explorer who was known for the evolution of natural selection. Wallace would travel everywhere, ranging from the East Indies, and Brazil. While in Indonesia, he stumbled upon a unknown species that later became known as the Megochile Pluto. These bees were later named ‘Wallace’s giant bee’ because of their unbelievable size in appearance.

Many people would be frightened to see this kind of bee. However, others think it is fascinating to see “this ‘flying bulldog’ of an insect that we weren’t sure existed anymore — to have real proof right there in front of us in the wild” ( What’s intriguing is they are not just unique when it comes to there size, but how they build there habitats. Normal bees build their homes out of beeswax in which they produce themselves. Inside their homes, are hexagonal cells that contain pollen, nectar, and honey. Megochile Pluto’s use use “resin and wood to create tunnels and cells in existing nests, carving out their own living space away from the termites” (

Even though these bees have reappeared back into our generation that we live in now, they are still one of the rarest kinds of bees. It is crucial that scientists keep an eye on them so that they can keep reappearing and are able to be here for more generations.

Saudi Woman Who Hopes to Inspire Others

On January 12, 2019, a young woman by the name of Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun fled her country, leaving behind her family. But, she was able to make it safely to a secure asylum in Canada. However, she left her family behind for distinct reasons. She was disowned by her family due to her not following her culture correctly. The reasons that follow were not her fault. She had allegedly said that they abused her and was only allowed to do certain things only by the permission of a male relative.

In Saudia Arabia, women do not have the kind of freedom they have here in the U.S and Canada. Saudia Arabia “has a male guardianship system where the woman needs permission from a male relative for major life decisions like marriage, work and travel” ( Over there, women have no independence. Everything they do has to be approved by a male and it makes them not feel as equal to men. The result of that includes Saudi women starting movements and later on them being arrested.
